TRIPS FOR KIDS AND TEACHERS
We operate a few trips that target kids and teachers. For kids, we offer a locally operated “Field Trip Afloat” excursion. These trips stay near shore and in the estuary to give hand-on learning in a variety of subjects (marine and environmental sciences, nautical science, oceanography, etc.). These lessons include practical skills such as microscopy, weather forecasting, and other readily applicable methods with no shelf-life (that is, “lessons for life”). For teachers, we operate sponsored excursions to bring in-person field experience to classroom teachers for professional development.
Two itineraries are available. At sea, we carry teachers to the Flower Garden Banks to explore and study the coral reefs there. We also offer coastal cruises that expose teachers to estuary habitats and the complex waterways that make Texas one of the great coastal birding destinations in the world. Along the way, there’s plenty of stops providing detailed study subjects under the microscope and in the reed grass, and countless other hideouts for wildlife.
